Opening:

1. While I check HW from last night (Revised Thesis), complete the "Anticipation Guide" on page 17.

2. Pair, Share, Write...in your journal, reflect on one of the statements you Disagreed with.

3. Brief Discussion

4. As a group, let's brainstorm together about the prompt at the top of page 18.

5. Complete the Quickwrite on page 18 independently.

• What was the event?
• Whom did it involve?
• When did it happen?
• Where did it occur?
• Why is it an important event?
• How did it involve heroism?

Work Period:

6. What heroes are you aware of that aren't adults?

7. What is the publication that "Love Triumphs" appears in?  What kind of publication is that?

8.  Read independently, marking the text for the 5Ws and H.  

Purpose for Reading:

• After reading, paraphrase the facts rather than quote the text when you summarize (see prompt at the bottom of page 20).

9.  When you finish, write a 3-4 sentence summary that provides the essential facts and main points of the article.
