Turn in Outside Reading Log #11
Note: Read through Chapter 8 by Wednesday

Opening:

1. In your journal, write five questions about the recent chapters (4-7).  Ask questions you MAY or MAY NOT know the answers to.

2. Question those in your small group

3. Large group discussion about big questions in small groups

Work Period:

4. Scan Chapters 1-7 and take notes in your small group on page 71.  
  • You may choose to jigsaw the three categories within your small group
5. When your group has collected ideas about how the two societies handle these "life-passages", complete the top of page 72 by JUDGING each society.
  • What are the benefits of how each society handles the circle of life?
  • What are the drawbacks of how each society handles the circle of life?
Closing:

6. In your journal, do some prewriting called "The Circle of Life"



  • Do a Quickwrite in response to the prompt at the bottom of page 72.  
  • Tomorrow we'll review the structure of a Compare and Contrast Essay and write a sample together.
