Opening:
1. HW Check and Review page 8.
- Which words fit in which category?
- Which words were left out? List them on page 9.
- What category do they all belong to?
2. In your Class Notebook, underline diction, denotation, and connotation and ensure that each is defined.
- Add "diction" and its definition.
3. Identify the tone of the passage at the bottom of page 9.
- Underline/highlight the phrases or words that suggest the tone.
- Label the tone in the margin.
4. In your Class Notebook, write an Internal Monologue that clearly demonstrates the tone you were assigned yesterday (see yesterday's work).

5. "A Man" on page 10. Predictions based on the Title?
- Try reading aloud in TWO VOICES
Theme:
- How is this "man" considered a hero?
- What is the challenge of his life now after the war?
- Why is the poem in two stanzas?
- What is the effect of having the last four lines as a new stanza?
