Opening:
1. Stay on EA #1: Writing a Definition Essay on pages 53-54.
2. In your small group, compare your notes on the EA.
- Circle the verbs
- Underline the nouns
3. Work to isolate the 5-6 key skills and knowledge you'll need to have to successfully complete this essay.
4. Create a graphic organizer in your Class Notebook
Work Period:
5. Summarize the EA at the bottom of page 5
6. Turn to Page 8 and read the instructions.
Mini-Project: (Requires Scissors, Paper, Glue)
7. With your Slip of Tone Words, do the following:
- Cut each word into its own piece of paper
- Using a dictionary, and your knowledge of the words
- Order the Words from Weakest to Strongest Connotations.
Eg.
Weakest Strongest
irritated vexed sharp upset enraged infuriated livid
Definition: angry
8. Check in with Mr. Busse when done, so your work can be reviewed.
9. Glue your words onto a piece of paper in order from weakest connotations to strongest connotations.
10. Determine the Denotation/Definition of the words and write that as the heading for your project.
Closing:
11. Try to arrange as many of the words in the "Word Bank" on the Right into the definition boxes on the left.
Homework:
Visualize and then Illustrate your assigned set of words from the Work Period in your Class Notebook. (You may take photos of yourself as an alternative, and show those on a piece of technology tomorrow.)
