  • Reflect on literature circles

  • Revisit KWHL chart and add knowledge gained through this activity
Please have out the following:

  • your Reader's Notebook (Notes on Reading)
  • Independent Reading Log #19
  • Article of the Week 2.1


Opening:
1. Submit your Independent Reading Log (tuck into your Notes on Reading where you have 2-3 entries for last week.)

2. Form groups of four or five and discuss AoW.2.1

3. Hand out: Article of the Week 2.2 and new Independent Reading Log

Be sure to complete the new Article of the Week by Thursday.

Work Period:
4. Rejoin your group from last Thursday.

  • Look back at your notes and your Children's Book
  • Conduct a Literature Circle (15 minutes):
    • Reporter goes 1st (if none, start with questions from the Discussion Leader)
5. In your group, complete 236 (including reading through the "Communicating in Reading Groups" guidelines.

Complete page 237 for HOMEWORK

6. Class Notebook Writing Prompt:

How is the theme of "Terrible Things" similar to the theme of the Children's Book that you read for your Literature Circle discussion?  Use details and examples to support your opinion.

Closing:
7. A Close Reading of a Map.

8. Return to your KWHL Chart and add to the "L" column.  

9. On a notecard, write down one thing you learned from the literature circle discussion and post it.

10. Be ready to choose your literature circle group tomorrow.
